ABC News is reporting a DHS spokesman said in a statement today:
The suggestion that individuals who have ties to ISIL have been apprehended at the Southwest border is categorically false, and not supported by any credible intelligence or the facts on the ground. DHS continues to have no credible intelligence to suggest terrorist organizations are actively plotting to cross the southwest border.”As reported her on "The Lid," while appearing on the Greta Van Susteren program last night Rep Hunter claimed, " At least ten ISIS fighters have been caught coming across the border in Texas."
A source close to Hunter told ABC News:
the congressman received a tip from a “high level” source at U.S. Customs and Border Protection who told him that a group of people with “suspected ISIS affiliation” –- even Americans who traveled to Syria to fight with the Free Syrian Army against President Bashar al-Assad –- were apprehended at the border.A spokesman for Hunter said that the congressman fears ISIS sympathizers could easily melt into U.S. cities and breed home-grown terrorism.
The tip "was from a confidential source with the Border Patrol," the source said in an email. "[It’s] more accurate to say people with known associations. Not 'fighters' in the sense folks might immediately think."
“The Congressman was conveying what he knows -- and what he was told,” Joe Kasper, deputy chief of staff to Hunter, wrote in response to the DHS denial. “It makes sense that the left hand of DHS doesn't know what the right hand is doing -- it’s been that way for a long time and we don’t expect that to change.”
On the other hand this afternoon Judicial Watch reported Islamic terrorists have entered the United States through the Mexican border and Homeland Security sources tell Judicial Watch that four have been apprehended in the last 36 hours by federal authorities and the Texas Department of Public Safety in McAllen and Pharr.
We will continue to monitor the situation to see where the story ends.
